Postnatal Fitness in Warrington

Mum & baby exercise classes in Stockton Heath – rebuild your strength with your baby by your side

Baby & Me at Z is postnatal fitness the way it should be: expert coaching, a premium studio, a room full of mums who get it, and no childcare to arrange. Your pre-walking baby comes with you to every class.

Mum & baby exercise classes in Stockton Heath

If you've been searching for postnatal fitness near me, chances are you've found plenty of gyms and not many places that actually welcome a baby. That's exactly why we built Baby & Me.

Every Baby & Me class runs in our upstairs studio at Z, right in the heart of Stockton Heath village. Your pre-walking baby stays by your side throughout the class, so you can feed, change and cuddle whenever you need to – and the other mums in the room understand completely.

Our coaches know everyone by name and are experienced in adapting sessions for pregnancy and postnatal recovery. Sessions are built around recovery first, fitness second – so you rebuild from the inside out rather than jumping straight back into what you did before pregnancy.

Our three postnatal classes

Baby & Me is a programme of three specialist classes, each focused on a different stage of your recovery. Come to one, or work through all three across the week.

  • ReconnectMonday · gentle postnatal recovery
  • ReigniteWednesday · rebuilding strength
  • Postnatal PilatesThursday · core, posture & pelvic floor

Reconnect – your first step back

Reconnect is the gentle starting point: a class focused on breathing, mobility, posture and reconnecting with your deep core and pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy and birth. Expect slow, controlled movement, plenty of coaching, and time to check in with how your body is feeling. Whether you had a vaginal birth or a caesarean, it's the natural place to begin once you've been given the go-ahead to exercise.

Reignite – rebuilding strength and confidence

Once you've reconnected, Reignite is about rebuilding strength and confidence after birth, progressed at your pace. This is the class that helps with lifting car seats, carrying a growing baby up the stairs and feeling like yourself again. Every exercise has an easier and a harder option, so beginners and experienced gym-goers train side by side.

Postnatal Pilates in Warrington

Our Thursday Postnatal Pilates class is all about the foundations: core control, pelvic floor recovery, posture and quality of movement. Pilates is brilliant after a baby because it teaches you to breathe well, brace well and move well – the things that protect your back and pelvis for years to come. It's low impact, calm, and a lovely hour for you and your baby.

Returning to exercise after birth

There's a lot of conflicting advice about when and how to exercise after having a baby. Here's the approach we take at Z.

The usual NHS advice is to wait until after your postnatal check (around six to eight weeks) before returning to structured exercise, and to speak to your GP or midwife first. Before that, gentle walking and pelvic floor exercises are generally encouraged after a straightforward birth – and honestly, sleep and recovery matter more than anything in those first weeks.

When you do come back, the order matters. Reconnect with your breathing and deep core first, rebuild pelvic floor and strength next, and leave high-impact work until later. Jumping straight into high-intensity classes is a common reason new mums end up with leaks, back pain or a sense that something "isn't right". That's why Baby & Me is built as three classes, each focused on a different stage of recovery.

Let your coach know about your birth and anything you're experiencing – diastasis recti (abdominal separation), pelvic floor symptoms or pain – and they'll adapt your session. For ongoing symptoms, a women's health physiotherapist is always worth seeing alongside your classes.

What if I've had a C-section?

You're very welcome. A caesarean is major abdominal surgery, so recovery usually takes a little longer – the usual advice is to wait for your postnatal check and your GP's go-ahead, then build up more gradually. Tell your coach at your first class and every exercise will be adapted for you.

Pelvic floor recovery

Leaking when you cough, sneeze or jump is common after birth – but common isn't the same as normal, and it's very treatable. Core and pelvic floor restoration are central to Baby & Me, from Reconnect's gentle core work on Mondays to Postnatal Pilates on Thursdays. Learning to find your pelvic floor, coordinate it with your breath and use it when you lift is what turns recovery into lasting strength. If symptoms persist, a women's health physiotherapist is the right person to see alongside your classes.

"I've honestly had the best time in these classes during maternity leave. I could barely keep up with the first class and had DOMS for days, but now I leave feeling strong after every class. They have saved my sanity, entertained my baby and helped me rebuild strength all at the same time, plus we've made Mum friends. Now it's time to graduate to Mini-and-Me!"

  • Wear whatever's comfy. Leggings and a t-shirt are perfect. Bring a water bottle.

Postnatal fitness FAQs

When can I start postnatal exercise?

The usual NHS advice is to wait until after your postnatal check (around six to eight weeks) and to speak to your GP or midwife before returning to structured exercise. Gentle walking and pelvic floor exercises are generally encouraged sooner after a straightforward birth. Reconnect is designed as the gentle first step back.

Can I attend after a C-section?

Yes. Recovery after a caesarean usually takes a little longer, so the usual advice is to wait for your postnatal check and your GP's go-ahead, then build up more gradually. Tell your coach at your first class and every exercise will be adapted for you.

Can I bring my baby to class?

Yes – that's the whole point. Pre-walking babies stay in the studio with you throughout the class. Feed, change and cuddle whenever you need to.

Do I need childcare?

No. Your baby comes with you to every Baby & Me class. Once your little one is walking, Mini & Me classes have a dedicated toddler play area on the other side of the studio, so you still don't need childcare.

I'm completely new to exercise – is that okay?

Absolutely. Many mums in our classes have never set foot in a gym. Every exercise is scaled to you, nobody is judged, and our coaches know everyone by name.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes, a water bottle, and whatever your baby usually needs – a blanket or mat, a favourite toy, feeding bits and a change of nappy. There's a buggy park downstairs by reception.

How much do postnatal classes cost?

Classes start from £8 a session. Pay as you go with class credits, buy a credit bundle, or take an unlimited monthly membership.

Is there a lift to the studio?

The studio is upstairs and there's no lift, but a member of the team is always on hand to help, and you can leave your buggy in the buggy park downstairs.

Can I stay for soft play or the café afterwards?

Yes. Your class ticket gives you complimentary access to the soft play and café before or after your class, subject to availability on the day.
